Ennismore Gardens

Interior Designer Jean-Louis Deniot

London

Townhouses fronted in Portland stone, displaying rich classical Italianate detailing and especially fine cast-iron railings conspicuously grand in their design. The interiors magnificent.  The importance of a firm visual relationship between house and garden. Gardens are of course about plants but composition is also important, the way in which all its elements work together to produce an overall effect. We created the structure of the garden using the trellis as one would with topiary.  Giving shape, coherence and rhythmic repetitions as in a formal garden. The private garden that led onto the communal garden was relatively small and dining and entertaining for a large family being of foremost importance. We  created a disciplined framework, an orderly setting from which the charm and delicacy of nature can be observed.
