Grade 11 Listed Building

Ethereal Formality

Lewes

Originally built as a large prestigious family home and garden. The previous owner cut the garden in half and sold off the land to developers. Mrs C saddened by the new fence and view of the new property built on what would have been a far more proportionate garden.

It was essential for us to bring one's eye and attention into the space. Incorporating fallen grandeur with an essence of Alice and Wonderland asymmetric quirkiness. Even though the garden is formal due to the repetition and use of symmetry and geometric shapes, Yew blocks, Buxus pyramids and Buxus topiary hedges and shrubs. It was also clear to me when speaking with Mrs C she wished for an otherworldly quality to the garden with abstract fluidity and free form, and to combine both of these elements. A lover of fine delicate things, reflecting her own fine, delicate, creative nature I found Mrs C so delightful to work with we worked together on her wedding  at a later date,
